Random 6 on the 6th

I was too busy to post anything yesterday for a monthly 5 on the 5th, so i'll post 6 photos from yesterday and today.

1. A sexy businessman I saw on the train yesterday afternoon.

2. A pasta salad I saw when I stopped at a market to get some water. Hooker salad???

3. In keeping with the pride theme, here's a pic of light reflecting a rainbow as I exited a small mall by my place.

4. Near a trail where I went hiking there's this funky record store. I snapped this photo from the glass door.

5. A pen holder that sits on my computer desk. As you can see I have multicolored pens and the green thing is ideal for holding my cell phone.

6. I invited a buddy over for some afternoon fun. Here's a pic of our gay pride "session". Hehehe!

It's Pride month

This month is Pride month, so go out and be happy and gay. I'm planning on having a fun filled Pride month with a Scissor Sisters concert (music can't get any gayer than this), and participating in the San Francisco Pride festivities, including marching in the Parade. Be out and be proud I say.

RIP Donna Summer

Every gay man has his divas (well most of 'em anyway), and Donna Summer was my very 1st one. Even to this day I recall being asked as a kid who my favorite singer was, and I remember responding with Donna Summer. I recall the days when my sister (then a teenager) used to practice her disco dancing moves with me in the kitchen. Back then she loved all the disco artists: KC & The Sunshine Band, The Bee Gee's... but Donna Summer was the queen. Her music holds great memories for me. Other divas soon came after: Madonna, PJ Harvey, Shirley Manson of Garbage, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Björk to name a few.... but I never forgot the very first one. So I say rest in peace Donna Summer! Your music will always hold a special place in my heart.

5 on the 6th

I forgot to post a 5 on the 5th yesterday, so I'm posting this a day late. 1. Cool cloud formation. 2. Cute tattooed dude I saw getting coffee this morning. 3. My dashboard zombie. 4. Shirtless dude riding a bike on a trail I hike. 5. My Iron Man undies, in honor of the new Avengers flick (watched it last night, loved it!)

Connectedness and Lucky Charms

Recently i've joined a free men's workshop that focuses on health, geared towards gay and bisexual men. Physical, Mental and Spiritual health. I've attended the first 2 meetings and I can see that i'm going to enjoy this experience. There's something very rewarding about being in a group of diverse men and sharing common experiences and finding common ground. I've already begun to see that some of the guys in the group that I thought I may not have anything in common with or didn't think I would relate to, it's turned out that I have more in common with them then I had thought. I'm really looking forward to the next meeting and am being completely open to the experience. I've always found myself a bit at odds with other gay men, feeling like I could never relate to them other than in a sexual way. This experience is leaning towards proving me wrong in that area, and if it does i'm happy to embrace it.
In other news, my straight buddy gave me a bear paw charm that he had bought some time ago. It was a good luck charm and he got it at an Indian store. It's supposed to offer protection to those who wear it. My friend gave it to me because of the bearpaw tattoo he saw on my chest that reminded him of it, and I also explained to him the symbolic meaning of bears to the gay bear culture. I now carry it around with me everywhere I go, along with my orange rosary that I got in New York last summer. As I get older i'm taking the opportunity to embrace as many feelings of connectedness with others as I can. Maybe that's corny or cheesy, but one thing i've learned in my 40 years on this planet is that being able to truly connect with another person is one of the greatest experiences you can have. Otherwise, life is meaningless if you're going to spend it hiding in a shell.

weekend geekness

Today I attended the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco's Japantown. They had a big parade and lots of people were dressed like animé characters, it was really cool.

I liked this pink Bandai transformer style robot. There were a few robots, many geishas, samurais, people with animal hats, a few Pokémons, Sailor Moons and animé girls.

In the mall I also purchased a Bandai Zetton and Bat Seijin figure from the newest Ultra film. I also picked up 3 bootleg DVD's, last year's Ultraman movie, The X From Outer Space and one called Samurai Zombie that sounds promising. They were on sale 3 for $25. The dude selling them was a cool, cute tattooed punk, and he also had duplicate movie posters of cool cult flicks like Horror Of Party Beach, Lucio Fulci's Zombie, Nightmare On Elm Street, Godzilla films, etc. If you're into Japanese geek stuff, the Cherry Blossom Festival is like a wet dream. ;-)
